I am Catalan, from Catalonia. Catalonia has its own language,
Catalan, history, culture and traditions. Today Catalonia is
administratively part of Spain. I want my country to be a new
independent state of Europe, a democratic republic, with social equity
values and respectful environmental policies, with a seat in the
United Nations, having the same full rights and duties as any other
independent country in the World.
In December 2017 took place the last elections at the autonomous
Catalan Parliament; 47,5% of the votes went to pro-independence
parties, 43,47% went to against-independence parties and the rest not
in favour, nor against. The elections of 2015 gave similar
numbers. After several years of trying some kind of agreement, it
seems that Spain has no intention to initiate any negotiation or even
talks with the Catalan government. I advocate nonviolent civil
disobedience to achieve the following proposal of the former's Catalan
Minister of Education, Mrs. Clara Ponsatí, nowadays in exile in
The withdrawal from Catalunya of the Spanish Policía Nacional
and the Spanish military corps Guardia Civil.
Freedom for all Catalan political prisoners and exiles. The President
of Catalonia, MHP Mr. Carles Puigdemont is in exile in Belgium; some
of his ministers, are in exile in Belgium and Scotland; some others,
by now two years in preventive jail, have been condemned to 11 to 15
years in prison, just to organize the referendum in October 1rst,
2017. The President of the Catalan Parliament, MHP Mrs. Carme
Forcadell is in prison just to allow discusions in the Catalan
Parliament. Two nonviolent civil leaders, Mr. Jordi Cuixart and
Mr. Jordi Sànchez have been condemned to 9 years in
prison. Right now, there are around some other 50 political prisoners,
in fact, all of them, hostages of Spain.
A Referendum of Self-determination for Catalonia. Like in Scotland or
in Quebec, I ask for a binding Referendum of Self-determination,
agreed with the Catalan and the Spanish governments and under the
supervision of the United Nations and other international governmental
institutions and non governmental organizations.
Barcelona, October 2019.
