The Societat Catalana de Matemàtiques (Catalan Mathematical Society) is a branch society of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans and it continues the work of the Secció de Matemàtiques of the Societat Catalana de Ciències, founded by the Institut in 1931.
The main goals of the SCM are: The SCM carries out its activities in the Catalan speaking countries. Thus the Catalan language is the language of the SCM and it will be the one used in all its acts and publications.

The SCM is ruled by its own Statutes (Estatuts, 5.4.1991), by those of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (25.4.1988) and by the Reglament de règim interior (Internal Regulations) of the Institut d'Estudis Catalans (27.5.1988).
